Two taken to hospital after crash near St Andrews

Two men have been taken to hospital following a crash near St Andrews.

The vehicles collided on the A917 St Andrews to Kingsbarns road at shortly before 2pm on Wednesday.

As a result of the crash, which happened near to the entrance to the Castle golf course, one of the vehicles caught fire.

Both drivers, aged 47 and 78, were taken to hospital, but no details of their injuries have emerged.

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance attended the scene and paramedics helped at the scene but did not airlift anyone to hospital.

The crash closed the road south of St Andrews for several hours.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Following a two car road traffic crash on the A917 south of St Andrews, today, Wednesday July 22, Police Scotland can now report that the two male drivers of the cars involved, ages 47 and 78 years, have been taken to hospital as a result.

“There are no details of their injuries at this stage.

“One of the vehicles involved caught fire at the scene.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had sent two appliances to the scene.

The Stagecoach 95 service was diverted from Kingsbarns to along station road and onto the B9131 at Beley Bridge then onto St Andrews due to the incident.
