Three further businesses in Perth have confirmed they are closing in a further blow to the city’s high street.

Malky’s Bar, Nicoll’s of Perth butchers and Tayside Bar and Kitchen have announced plans to shut.

Nicoll’s announced last week it has been forced to close its Perth branch due to staffing issues.

A post on Facebook said: “To our loyal customers, we are saddened to announce that the Perth shop is closed permanently due to increasing staffing difficulties.

“We will be delivering in Perth and surrounding areas, you can place an order on messenger or by calling Colin at the Cupar shop on 01334 659216

“Vouchers can be redeemed at Nicoll’s of the Ferry, Nicoll’s of Newport or Nicoll’s of Cupar or a full refund given.”

The owners of Tayside Bar and Kitchen on Princes Street – which only opened in April in the old Nicoll’s Steakhouse unit – have announced the venue will not trade beyond this weekend.

A statement said: “Due to circumstances out of our control, we’re deeply saddened to announce that we will be closing our doors permanently, as of 11pm on Saturday June 10.

‘This is not a decision taken lightly’

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but unfortunately it’s no longer financially viable to keep the business open at this current time.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support on our social media platforms, but unfortunately, due to the lack of footfall coming in the doors, we are unable to sustain ourselves and have no other choice but to close.

“We’d also like to say huge thank you to our staff, as without them, the dream would never of became a reality.

“It’s just a shame that it had to end so soon, and in the way it has.”

The statement added: “With several other businesses also announcing their closure within Perth city centre in the last few days/weeks, we’re absolutely gutted to be doing the same.

“We would like to urge people to give their utmost support to the ones whom are still remaining.”

Malky’s Bar plans ‘massive closing party’

And South Street pub Malky’s Bar will also shut later this month.

A Facebook post said: “Unfortunately, Saturday June 17 will be our final day of trading; so we’ll go out with a bang and have a massive closing party.”

No reason has been given for the closure.

It comes after the recent announcement that Two Chihuahua’s Gringo’s Bar & Restaurant and Dutch & Pablo’s bar had both closed.

Several other shops and restaurants have also shut their doors in recent months.

One online group has called for more to be done to ensure visitors know that businesses are continuing to trade during major roadworks in the city centre.

The Perthshire Local Facebook page said: “Perth and Kinross Council have signs all over town saying ‘Tay Street closed’.

“It is only closed to traffic and it’s only a small section.

“Why do the signs not read ‘closed to traffic’?”

Perth and Kinross Council has been contacted for comment.
