Emergency services were called to a busy Perthshire slip road on Saturday night after a horse broke out of its trailer and made its way onto the dual carriageway.
Police and Scottish Fire and Rescue, along with a vet, raced the the M90 slip road leaving Bridge of Earn and heading towards Perth after they received reports that the animal had escaped from its horsebox and got onto the road.
The vehicle towing the horsebox is understood to have broken down at the Muirmont Interchange.
Police had closed the main road while the horse, described as “distressed”, was transferred into another transporter by the emergency services.
The animal was safely transferred into another horsebox.
Bridge of Earn residents reported that the slip road towards Perth remained closed beyond 9pm.
A large number of horseboxes were travelling in the region at the weekend as Perth Racecourse held its annual Family Raceday on Sunday. It is unclear, though, whether this horsebox was heading to the Racecourse.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At about 7pm on July 13, emergency services were made aware of a broken down vehicle on the M90 on the northbound side of the carriageway at Juntion 9.
“The vehicle involved was a horsebox and a horse onboard had become distressed. A vet also attended the incident.
“The motorway was closed for a short time around 8pm to facilitate the safe transfer of the animal to another vehicle.”
