Iain Davidson has already won promotion to the Premiership with Dundee – however he admits if he can do the same with home town club Raith this season it will be an even bigger achievement.
“Davo” was a key player for the Dark Blues when they went up automatically in 2014.
If he is to repeat the feat with Rovers, though, it will have to be the hard way through the play-off system with Ray McKinnon’s side needing to negotiate a total of six games if their promotion dream is to become a reality.
Davidson, who will be in the Raith squad for tomorrow’s game at Livingston, said: “I think it would probably mean slightly more (winning promotion with Raith). At Dundee, we were expected to win the league with the budgets we had, etc.
“With Raith, there’s a lesser budget and a lesser squad.
“If we were to get promotion through the play-offs, it probably would be my biggest achievement.
“It would be great to do it.”
While Raith have known for weeks that they will finish in fourth place, Hibs and Falkirk are still battling it out to see who will be second with it going right down to the wire this Sunday for pair.
Whoever ends up third will face Raith next Wednesday in the play-off quarter-final first leg at Stark’s Park and Davidson insists neither side will relish facing the “dark horses”.
He added: “No-one’s really spoken about us but the form we’re in a lot of people might not fancy us. Sometimes you do use that as a motivation.
“Falkirk and Hibs are doing their best to try to play two less games on Sunday and they’ll both be going for it in their games.
“We’ll just need to try to take care of Livi and then, come Wednesday night, whoever it is, we’ll do our utmost to win the game.”
When asked if it was a compliment that Hibs and Falkirk both seemed keen to avoid Raith, Davidson admitted: “There’s probably that element to it. They’ll play two less games, which is a big benefit to whoever finishes second out of Hibs and Falkirk.
“They’re both good sides. We’ll respect them and give them what they deserve but, whoever it is, we’ll do our best to win the game.”
Davidson admits he does not have a preference over who he would like to face in the play-off.
He added: “I’ve been asked that a few times and it’s one you can’t really answer, to be honest – you’ve just got to take who comes.
“Both are beatable but they’re both good sides, Falkirk have been up there all season and so have Hibs.
“We’ll respect both of them but, whoever we get, they’re beatable on the day.
“We’ve got good players and we’ll try and concentrate on ourselves.
“We won’t know until Sunday who it’s going to be but we’ll prepare in a proper way and take it as it comes on Wednesday night.
“If we are to get to the play-off final we’ll have played the most games, but we’ve got a good enough squad there to hopefully try and compete and if we get there great.
“If we do, then hopefully we can get over the finishing line – and it would be worth it if we do.
“That’s what you’ve got to think of – you’re going to play in the Premiership and the stadiums you’re going to play in.
“It’ll be a tough three weeks but there’s a massive reward at the end of it.”
Kyle Benedictus is suspended for tomorrow’s game but Mark Stewart should return from injury.
