Arbroath boss Dick Campbell has confirmed that talismanic front man Bobby Linn will not play again this season.
The Red Lichties stand on the brink of League 1 title success with the champagne on ice ahead of this weekend’s game with Angus neighbours Brechin at the Glebe.
Campbell’s men were within a whisker of going up last weekend as they defeated Montrose at Gayfield but a late Raith Rovers’ equaliser at Stenhousemuir extended their wait for the silverware for at least another week.
However, the win over the Gable Endies had to be achieved without Linn, who has netted 23 times this season, with the former Dundee player sidelined by a knee injury that Campbell hopes will have healed by the time the next campaign begins – in the Championship.
The manager said: “I cannot see Bobby playing again this season.
“He has a ligament problem on his knee and it seems very close to being a serious one.
“He just picked up the injury in an innocuous tackle, a simple football accident.
“It is still in the early stages of diagnosis yet but he will not play again in this campaign.
“It is a big blow for us and Bobby – nobody would contest that he has been the player of the season in our league.
“He was limping on Saturday and there are only four games to go.
“The most important thing is that we get him back fit for the start of next season. That’s the main thing.
“Everyone else is fine after the Montrose game and we cannot wait to get on with the match on Saturday.”
