Dundee’s Glen Kamara hoping for similar passionate display once more at Hamilton

Glen Kamara.
Glen Kamara.

The last time Dundee travelled through to Hamilton back in January, Neil McCann’s side showed incredible grit and dogged determination to keep going right to the end in search of a winner.

They received their reward in the 98th minute of the game when A-Jay Leitch-Smith diverted a Glen Kamara shot into the back of the net to spark wild scenes of joy both on and off the pitch.

Now, with Dundee in desperate need of their first points of the season, Kamara is demanding a similar passionate display.

The 22-year-old Finnish international said: “Definitely. Hamilton is always a hard place to go to so we will need a similar performance this weekend.

“I helped with the assist for A-Jay’s winner – it would be great if I could do the same again.

“To be honest, the last few games have been must-win ones for us.

“So there is no added pressure at Hamilton and we will go about it like any other game.

“We have just been getting on with things in training, trying to make it fun as usual.”

Kamara is well aware there will be little fun on offer when they face a Hamilton side renowned for their fighting qualities.

He added: “We know a bit about them already and they are always going to be a battling team.

“So we have watched the videos and we have trained for it.

“We know what they are like and we will be up for it.

“But we won’t really focus on them too much and instead we will focus on ourselves.

“Just do our things right and hopefully get that result.

“We know we will not have a lot of time and space especially in midfield.

“So we just have to stay focused.”

While Dundee have endured a miserable start to the season, Kamara has also been left feeling frustrated that he has not been able to contribute as much as he would have liked, missing games because of a niggling ankle injury.

However, after starting last week against Hibs and skippering the side, he is hoping to enjoy a long run in the team.

He said: “The injury has been ongoing for a while.

“It has pretty much cleared up now so it was great to start against Hibs even although it wasn’t the right result.

“Hopefully I can help the boys get that win at Hamilton.

“Their artificial pitch is obviously a bit different to grass but we will be ready for it.”
