Tam Courts has held talks with youngster Declan Glass to reassure him that he is a valuable member of his Dundee United plans.
Glass was substituted 41 minutes into United’s 1-0 defeat to Motherwell last week as Courts made a tactical change to bring on Nicky Clark.
The talented midfielder was visibly disappointed at the time as he trudged off the Fir Park turf.
But United boss Courts has made it clear that Glass has a key role to play for the Tannadice club going forward.
“The first thing I did with Declan after the Motherwell game was bring him in for a chat,” said Courts.
“I gave him my thoughts and perspective on the situation.
“I told him he is still at the forefront of my thoughts in terms of team selection or coming on to influence things.
“He’s a versatile player. He has played more football for me than he did for any other manager.

“Declan only played once last year before he went on loan.
“But he has already had four appearances in the Scottish Premiership this year.
“He knows that I trust him, value him and will give him opportunities.
“It was a decision I took on the night and one I would do again – if needed.
“We have given young players a real opportunity this year.
“Whether that’s Kerr Smith at Celtic Park, Kieran Freeman or Louis Appere, Declan or Darren Watson.
“They have all merited further minutes and I look to give them that.”
Dylan Levitt on comeback trail
Meanwhile, Dylan Levitt is set to give United a major injury boost.
Manchester United loan star Levitt is back in full training after being out since the end of October.
The Welsh international could make the bench against Livingston before facing Rangers next week.
Scott McMann is also in contention after missing out on last weekend’s defeat to Celtic.
“Dylan is making real progress,” added Courts. “It’s still touch and go whether or not he’ll make the Livingston game.
“But this is the first week he has a fighting chance of playing a part. It may be from the bench or at Rangers next week.
“He’s only been here a short space of time and made just seven starts but what an impact he has had.
“He’s a young player trying to find his way at the top level of the game and he has been sensational for us.
“Dylan’s a tremendous talent who has the respect of his team-mates and the fans really enjoy watching him play.
“We are looking forward to having him back as an option or to start him soon.”
