EXCLUSIVE: Marc McNulty insists Dundee United is a happy camp and vows to help the fans smile again

Marc McNulty has backed his Dundee United team-mates to hit a run of form that will put a smile back on to the faces of the fans.

United have lost six-in-a-row – their worst league form in 16 years.

And they know they need to start producing results as soon as possible, with manager Tam Courts insisting he thrives on pressure.

Despite their poor form, United are in touching distance from the top six and take a break from league action to face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Striker McNulty hasn’t been part of that poor run of results, having just returned from a four-month injury lay-off.

But he insists the mood in the camp remains upbeat.

Marc McNulty insists there’s a good spirit in the Dundee United camp.

“It hasn’t been a good run of results,” McNulty told Courier Sport.

“But people are still coming into their work with a smile on their face.

“That’s testament to how cohesive our group is.

“Everyone gets on well and everyone is very positive.

“It’s a very well-run club from top to bottom.

“From Tony Asghar to the gaffer, our assistant boss Liam Fox and first team coach Adam Asghar – it’s a great club.

“We have a young management team but they are bringing in fresh ideas and we are learning a lot from them.

“Results haven’t been acceptable recently and we are experienced enough to know that.

“But we also know how quickly football can turn and we can be one win away from a winning run.”

Marc McNulty: I want to join a Tony Watt-powered Dundee United attack

Marc McNulty is looking forward to playing alongside Tony Watt.

McNulty is in his second loan spell at United but injury has hampered his season so far.

He underlined his immense commitment to the cause by rejecting the chance to return to parent club Reading for his rehab.

He hasn’t scored for United in 11 games, a run that stretches back to last year’s loan spell.

But he’s determined to put to set that record straight by linking up with new signing Tony Watt in attack.

“It’s good to be back on the pitch,” added McNulty.

“I’m disappointed with my overall performance against St Mirren but I can put it right.

“I’m committed to doing well at United. It was my decision to stay with the group for my rehab.

“I could have gone back to Reading but when I spoke to the gaffer here I decided to stay and work my way back.

“There was no point going down to Reading youth team when we have top physios and staff here.

“It’s great to see Tony Watt here too. He’ll be a great addition and will give us additional firepower.

“I think we can complement each other very well.

“I want to play with good players, who are scoring goals and if you give partnerships a chance they can work.”
