A new wedding venue in Perthshire has opened after an investment of more than £500,000.

The wedding barn is the latest addition to the 20-acre Silverwood development near Errol.

Rod and Adelle Sim started selling lodges at the Carse of Gowrie resort in 2018.

When a bistro was added the following year, the couple began holding weddings in a marquee.

This demand has led the couple to make the major investment in the new wedding barn, which held its first wedding a fortnight ago.

Rod said: “It’s a bespoke building that’s capable of holding weddings of up to 200 people.

“It’s a rustic wedding venue with wonderful views of the countryside.”

Remarkably the extension took just 10 weeks to build.

“Some local tradesman are old friends and I called in every favour,” Rod said.

“We had 15 guys working on it.

“The result is that we’re like a small boutique version of Piperdam where people can potentially hire the whole resort and have it to themselves.”

Silverwood expansion plans

This year 20 weddings will take place at Silverwood and another 20 booked for next year.

Well organised brides and grooms have even booked dates in 2024.

Dozens of weddings have been booked for the Silverwood venue which has an outdoor seating area.

Meanwhile the expansion of the resort is continuing.

The site currently has 15 lodges with another four added soon. There is planning permission for a further 19.

Work on this phase, which will fill the site to its capacity, will start in the summer and last around a year.

Many of the lodges are investments for the tourism market, which Rod and Adelle manage.

The two and three bedroom lodges sell for between £200,000 and £280,000.

Adelle and Rod Sim, owners of Silverwood at Carse of Gowrie.

Rod, who used to have a tank driving business, adds: “All the lodges are built to timber frame house specs.

“They have Gillies of Broughty Ferry furniture, Howden kitchens and bathrooms and are spacious.

“They make for very good investments and we have become a sizeable businesses, offering accommodation to the size of many hotels.

“We are also looking to market weekend breaks to people in London who could fly into Dundee, be based here and explore Scotland.

“We are striving to provide a high quality value for money luxury accommodation.”
