An Angus fundraiser has been launched to support a touring band after their gear was destroyed in an arson attack.

Scottish folk group Hò-Rò were left without instruments and other equipment after a fire near Ibrox stadium in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Forfar-based charity event company EPL Events made an appeal to help their friends, who have performed in town with the likes of Donnie Munro and Skerryvore at a fundraiser.

They have raised almost £8,000 towards getting their Highland friends back on track.

The band said they were “absolutely heartbroken” by the attack, commenting on their Facebook page: “We have worked very hard to get to where we are at the moment.

“We saved up as much as we could to buy the van and good equipment so that we could sound as good as possible.”

EPL Events raises money for various charities throughout Scotland by holding entertainment events in Angus.

The volunteer-run organisation has raised more than £5,000 for Scottish charities including Cash for Kids, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, Ronald McDonald House Glasgow, MND Scotland, and Children’s Hospices Across Scotland.

Founder Ewan Phillip said: “That vehicle and its contents are their livelihood.

“Please help this great young band get back on their feet.

“We were lucky enough to have Hò-Rò play for us.

“So please take the time to contribute something, anything, to keep this young band’s dream alive.”

Mr Phillip added: “I am so pleased with amazing reaction and uptake for the campaign so far.

“I’m really proud of the Scottish live music community for its generosity and hopefully we can help raise as much as possible for these talented individuals.”
