Police are investigating reports youths from across Angus have been arranging to brawl with each other in one of the region’s biggest towns.
Officers have increased patrols following claims that youngsters from Montrose and Forfar have been arranging to meet up for pre-organised fights in Brechin in the evenings.
The force said no “disturbances” have taken place yet but have told parents to be on guard.
A Tayside Police Division statement claims youngsters have been “arranging to meet in the town along with youths from Montrose and Forfar to engage in anti-social behaviour in the evenings”.
Local Sergeant Clark Renilson said: “Antisocial behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated and I would strongly urge anyone thinking of becoming involved in such activity to not get drawn in.
“Should further reports be made to police regarding this type of behaviour, those found to be involved will be spoken to in the presence of their parents or guardians.
“Depending on the circumstances, those responsible may also find themselves being arrested, charged and reported to the relevant authority, be it the Procurator Fiscal or the Youth Justice Management Unit.
“I would encourage parents to be aware of what their children are up to during the evenings and to discuss what is and isn’t acceptable with them.
“Being reported for a crime could potentially affect or limit future education and career choices and so the best advice is to stay safe and out of trouble.”
