A Fife man spent a night in police cells after losing his temper with a blocked vacuum cleaner on Easter Monday during the coronavirus lockdown.
Furloughed labourer Marky Moir, 27, smashed the machine to pieces and kicked the bits into a neighbour’s garden.
The Fife man also smashed in the back window of his girlfriend’s BMW, which he had been vacuuming when the obstruction occurred, Falkirk Sheriff Court heard.
Prosecutor Katherine Fraser said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon, at the home of Moir’s partner Gemma Walker in Methil.
Ms Fraser said: “The accused was hoovering both his vehicle and Miss Walker’s vehicle, and the hoover packed in, causing him to ask Miss Walker to fix it.
“She asked him why he couldn’t fix it himself, causing the accused to go into a rage.
“He began to smash the hoover and kicking parts of it into a neighbouring garden.”
He then walked back into the house, pushing past Miss Walker, causing her to stumble back towards the door frame.
Sentence was deferred for a social background report and Moir was released on bail.
Sheriff Craig warned him: “Making anybody feel unsafe in their own home – when you’ve both got to stay in that home in the current environment – is a serious offence indeed.”
