A drunk Perth man who pushed his partner onto a chair has been told to stay out of trouble for six months.

Jamie Matthews appeared at Perth Sheriff Court to admit assaulting the woman at a property in Letham.

Fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson said the pair had been drinking in a pub but an argument broke out when they got home.

He pushed her on the body, causing her to fall onto a chair.

She called 999 but told police she panicked.

Solicitor Billy Somerville explained Matthews, of Cluny Terrace, had pushed her as he tried to leave.

Sheriff Derek Hamilton deferred sentence until January 18 for the 43-year-old to be of good behaviour.

Caused father’s death

A Monifieth dad was killed moments after leaving a Father’s Day family event by a motorist driving like he had a “death wish”. Peter MacMillan, 52, left his elderly parents’ home in the town shortly before his vehicle was struck by a Renault Clio being driven by Stuart Matchett, who has pled guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Cannabis dealer

Martin Henry, 23, of Kirkland Gardens, Methil was caught dealing cannabis from his home.

He pled guilty at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to being concerned in the supply of the class B drug between November 2020 and March 2021.

Procurator fiscal depute Lee-Anne Hannan said police found about 4g of cannabis and a mobile phone with a number of messages indicating his involvement.

£2,070 in cash was also recovered.

Defence lawyer Kieran Clegg said his client, previously an apprentice gamekeeper, smokes cannabis to self-medicate for ADHD and believes this is under control.

Sheriff Ian Anderson adjourned sentencing until August 17.

Police complaint

A disabled Dundee man said he feared he would be left paralysed after police wrestled him to the ground as they arrested him.

Lee Fraser, 48, has suffered multiple spinal problems, including a disk fusion and cysts on his brain, leaving him with permanent mobility issues.

He was charged with police assault and resisting arrest but found not guilty.

He has complained to Police Scotland about his treatment.

Cell trasher

A former Perth prisoner will be sentenced after smashing up his cell.

John Alexander, 38, now of HMP Barlinnie, 38, admitted that on April 8 this year he wilfully damaged a sink and shelving unit in his cell in HMP Perth’s C Hall.

Sheriff Derek Hamilton deferred sentence on the serving prisoner until July 27 for a video link to be set up.

Wedding chaos

A Fife Hogmanay wedding turned sour when police were called to deal with the groom’s drunk brother, Reiss Wilson, who assaulted officers and threatened to murder one and set another on fire. The incident happened at Keavil House Hotel in Crossford, near Dunfermline, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Domestic abuse

A Dunfermline woman threatened to burn her ex partner’s passport and attempted to set fire to a duvet on a bed in which he was lying.

Erin Caldwell, 33, of Appin Crescent, admitted engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive of the man, between September 2019 and June 2020.

Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard Caldwell shouted and swore at the man and threatened to burn his passport on one occasion and attempted to set an air freshener on fire on another.

Procurator fiscal depute Laurelle Johnstone said in another incident, Caldwell attempted to set fire to the duvet.

The fiscal depute said the man had recorded these incidents on his mobile phone.

Ms Johnstone said that in May 2020, he changed his phone number to try and stop her calling but she found the new number and made in excess of 70 calls to him.

Defence lawyer David Bell said Mr Miller himself was convicted of a serious assault on Caldwell following a trial in 2020.

The solicitor said Caldwell has been rebuilding her confidence since the relationship ended, having engaged with Women’s Aid and started a job in a shop.

Sheriff Ian Anderson fined Caldwell £400 and made a two-year non-harassment order.
