A Tayside barber is planning to cut hair for 19 hours straight to reward loyal customers for sticking with the business.

Georgia Gaffney, who owns House of Handsome in Carnoustie, will get to work tidying overgrown lockdown locks as soon as the clock strikes midnight to bring in July 15.

The 28-year-old is fully booked for the marathon shift, which will see the shop open all the way up until 7pm.

Georgia said the response from locals had been “wild”.

She said: “I didn’t actually expect to see this much demand so it has taken me by surprise.

“I’m picturing all the hairdos that I’ll need to sort out and I think there will be some pretty bad ones.

“The feedback has been amazing though and I really appreciate everyone coming back.

“It will be good to see everyone and get back to some normality. It’s just me in the shop so it will be a long day.

“I’m a little nervous about the new rules to make sure social distancing is in place but I’m sure it will be fine.

“I think it will be max two people in the shop to allow parents to come in with their kids.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon recently revealed hairdressers, barbers, indoor pubs, and restaurants will be allowed to reopen from July 15.

House of Handsome will be just one of many businesses welcoming customers for the first time in almost four months.

Georgia said she was “one of the lucky ones”.

“I know others have faced pressure from landlords demanding too much rent when they aren’t making any money,” she said.

“I’ve only had to pay what I can afford so my landlord has been great with me.

“It has been a long few months and I can’t wait to get back.”

The Dundee Street business will soon open a second shop at Dundee’s new Skyaxe Combat and Fitness Gym on Ward Road.
