An employee at Amazon’s Dundee depot has tested positive for Coronavirus.

The retail giant confirmed the single case at its Riverside Drive site last night.

A spokesman told the Evening Telegaph the affected person had gone into self-isolation and was being supported.

“Since the early days of this situation, we have worked closely with local authorities to proactively respond, ensuring we continue to serve customers while taking care of our associates and we’re following all guidelines from local officials about the operations of our buildings,” the spokesman said.

“We have implemented proactive measures at our facilities to protect employees including increased cleaning at all facilities, maintaining social distance in our sites, and adding distance between drivers and customers when making deliveries.”

Amazon says it has introduced more than 150 new measures to ensure the spread of the virus is limited, and has invested more than ÂŁ620 million globally to help protect its staff and customers.

The depot is run by Amazon Logistics, which uses independent couriers to deliver parcels in and around Dundee seven days a week.

The news comes 10 days after the company confirmed a case at its Dunfermline delivery hub.

At the time, NHS Fife stressed there was no evidence of any onwards transmission and that close contacts had been traced.

On Sunday evening, NHS Tayside confirmed to “probable” cases at St Madoes Primary School in Perthshire.

Both cases were linked to a confirmed infection, health bosses said. Two classes of pupils were sent home to isolate for 14 days.

Meanwhile, seven people linked to the Police Scotland driving school at Tulliallan also tested positive.

NHS Fife said there was no evidence that the virus had spread around the facility.
