An acclaimed young scientist has reportedly stepped down from his position with Dundee University after claims he falsified research were found to be true.
Dr Robert Ryan, a leader in the field of research in molecular bacteriology, was suspended last year pending an investigation over allegations he was guilty of misconduct and duplication and falsification of research.
According to the Scotland on Sunday the investigation found that he had “seriously breached” good practice. This finding has now been upheld following an appeal by the scientist.
Dr Ryan has also been stripped off his senior fellowship with the biomedical research charity, the Wellcome Trust.
He had previously been awarded grants of close to £1.1m for his work.
A university spokesperson said: “The University of Dundee has completed an investigation into allegations of research misconduct by an individual member of staff under its Code of Policy and Procedures for Investigating and Resolving Allegations of Misconduct in Research.
“The investigation found that the individual had committed serious research misconduct. Following the conclusion of the investigation, the individual has left the university.”
