A British comedian was bowled over by the generosity of a Dundee book shop owner following the death of his close friend Sean Hughes.
Phil Jupitus was in Madigan’s Food Emporium on the city’s Castle Street on Tuesday when he spotted The Grey Area, a book written by his fellow Never Mind the Buzzcocks star.
Stand-up comedian Hughes died on Monday aged 51.
After approaching the counter to purchase the book the tea shop’s owner, making the link between the two men, refused to accept his money.
Afterwards Jupitus posted to Twitter: “In Dundee, found a copy of Sean’s ‘The Grey Area’ in @MadigansFoodEmp The lady at the counter wouldn’t charge me. Thank you.”

Hughes was a team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks from 1996 until 2002. Jupitus starred in the BBC show from its inception until its end in 2015.
Staff at Madigan’s Food Emporium replied: “Thank you for your visit and enjoy the book @jupitusphillip he seemed like such a good man.”
