Police have urged people across Central, Tayside and Fife to plan ahead this weekend as the freezing conditions continue across the area.

As the Met Office weather warning now sits at yellow for ice, Police Scotland has downgraded its previously issued travel advice but has told members of the public to travel with caution and be aware that road travel may be hazardous.

Reports of minor bumps and shunts are continuing to come in, although Fife Council said it treated all primary routes with salt at 3.15pm on Friday and again at 4am on Saturday morning.

Weather conditions are continuing to be monitored and ice is again likely to be widespread on Saturday evening with largely clear conditions anticipated this evening and overnight and temperatures to fall well below freezing.

The Met Office say that there is a risk of some light sleet and snow spreading in from the west on Sunday by about 11am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “If using public transport, please check with the provider before you leave to see if there is any disruption or cancellation to services.

“We are also advising people to plan ahead over the weekend. If you’re out during the evening and planning on drinking alcohol, make sure you have your journey home organised.

“Book a taxi in advance and keep up to date with transport providers to ensure services are running.

“For more information about the weather warnings in place, please follow the Met Office on Facebook and Twitter or visit their website.”
