Delays expected as roadworks begin on A9 and M90

Work will be split into two phases
Work will be split into two phases

A new round of roadworks is planned for major routes across Perthshire, with restrictions needed on both the M90 and A9 from Monday.

The most disruptive will see resurfacing works undertaken on a 1km section of the northbound A9 at Drumochter in Highland Perthshire.

Further south, repairs will also be carried out on the M90 at Neccesity Brae, just south of the Broxden Roundabout, where essential bridge maintenance will take place.

Some inconvenience for motorists is expected from each of the projects, with drivers urged to allow extra time for travel.

The A9 works will take place over ten days, between 7am and 7pm each day – though no weekend working will take place.

A 10mph convoy system will be in operation on the northbound carriageway while works are undertaken to maintain the safety of both road workers and road users.

Outwith working hours, a lane closure will remain in place for safety until the resurfacing is complete.

Due to the nature and location of the resurfacing operations, the Trinafour junction will be closed during operations, with a signed diversion route in place via the B847.

BEAR Scotland’s Eddie Ross said: “The surfacing improvements will help address the defects on this section of the A9 and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“We’ve planned the works to take place outwith the busy weekend period to limit the impact to motorists and our teams will do all they can to minimise any disruption during the improvements.”

The M90 works at Perth will involve replacing some of the bridge deck joints which are in need of repair and should mean a reduction in noise as vehicles pass over the bridge.

To allow the repairs to be completed safely, alternate lane closures of the southbound and northbound carriageways will be place for five nights, together with a temporary 50mph speed limit.

The works will begin on Monday and take place from 7.30pm to 5am each night, with no traffic management in place during the daytime.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and to allow some additional time for travel.
