Montrose hoping to announce name of new boss next week

Montrose chairman John Crawford.

Montrose chairman John Crawford is hoping the club will be able to announce Paul Hegarty’s successor as manager next week.

The Gable Endies began interviewing prospective candidates for the post on Wednesday night.

Further interviews will be carried out with the Montrose board determined to carefully weigh up who will take over in the Links Park hot-seat.

Hegarty’s former assistant, John Holt, who has thrown his hat in the ring to become the permanent manager, has taken temporary charge in the last two games and he will be in the dug-out once again on Saturday up in Elgin.

Crawford said: “We started interviewing on Wednesday night.

“However, there are other candidates we still have to speak to so John Holt will once again take the team at Elgin on Saturday.

“As a board, we are determined to take our time to get the right man in.

“Things are going well off the park at Montrose and we want the same to happen on it.

“We certainly do not want to be where we are in the league or to be the worst placed team in Angus.

“We are trying to make sure that the next manager appointment is the correct one.

“Hopefully we will be able to make an announcement next week.”

Meanwhile, former Albion Rovers boss Jim Ward is the latest name to be linked with the Montrose job.
