Montrose ready to throw new defender Ryan Harrington straight into side for Stranraer

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie is ready to throw new signing  Ryan Harrington straight into his team to face Stranraer.

After a summer spent trying to land the right-back from Aberdeen on loan, Petrie finally closed the deal this week.

Harrington had been held in reserve by Dons boss Derek McInnes as first-team cover but is now been allowed to go out and get game time with the Gable Endies.

And it looks like he will hit the ground running at Stair Park this afternoon.

Petrie said: “There is every chance Ryan will start the match.

“He will certainly go straight into the squad and give us the right-back we have been looking for.

“We didn’t have a natural for that position so he will be a great asset for us and he comes highly recommended.

“I have been working on this for eight or nine weeks but it had been delayed while Derek held him for cover, which is a compliment to Ryan.

“So it is great to get this deal over the line.”

Harrington certainly can’t wait to get going.

He said: “I am excited about the prospect of going on loan and playing at a good level.

“It will be great for my development.

“Montrose have started the season strongly and hopefully we can continue that form. It will be good to get more game time.”

Harrington joined Aberdeen from Everton and featured for their colts team against Raith Rovers in the Irn-Bru Cup as well as making the bench for the first-team games against Rangers and Dundee.

It is another big boost for Montrose to follow their Angus derby victory over Brechin last weekend.

It was their first over City since 2000 and Petrie added: “You would not be surprised to hear that the mood has been great all week and the lads have trained really well.

“It was a great result for us but we are under no illusions that Stranraer will make it difficult down there.”

Montrose have no fresh injury worries for their clash with the Blues.
