Raith Rovers suffered a 2-0 defeat at Dens Park thanks to a Zach Robinson double.

A penalty after a handball by Rovers captain Scott Brown gave Dundee the lead.

Shortly after Robinson converted his second following a corner, slamming in the rebound from his own shot after a point-blank save from Jamie MacDonald.

It was Raith’s first defeat in five and sees them drop one place to fourth in the Scottish Championship.

Key moments

Rovers started the better side in the low autumn sun, with Dylan Easton looking like he could make something happen.

He had an effort in the opening minutes which flew over the bar and he later set up Scott Brown after a beating a few men, but the midfielder shot just wide.

The Raith pressure continued and the closest they came was when Kyle Connell headed into the side netting.

The key moment of the first half was Zach Robinson’s shot for Dundee – which hit one post, then Jamie MacDonald, before trundling off the other post.

MacDonald watches the ball roll across his goal.

Robinson then forced a decent save from  MacDonald before Paul McMullan tested the veteran keeper from distance.

At 2-0 Brown could have put some pressure on the home side but he shot over the bar after some clever play on the left from Kieran Ngwenya.

It could have been more for Dundee as Raith committed men forward.

Star man

Rovers started the match well but fell out of it and never really recovered from the conceded penalty.

Kieran Ngwenya was solid at full-back and was a threat down the left. He set up Brown just after Dundee made it 2-0 for what was Raith’s best chance.

It would have been the perfect response had he scored. Rovers struggled to create much after that as Dundee defended stoutly.

Player ratings

Raith Rovers (4-2-3-1): MacDonald 7; Millen 6, O’Riordan 6, Dick 6, Ngwenya 7; Brown 6 (Vaughan 6), Spencer 7; Connolly 6, Stanton 7, Easton 7 (Frederiksen 6); Connell 6. Subs not used: McNeil, Nolan, McBride, Coulson, Masson.

Manager under the microscope

Ian Murray stuck with the same side for the fourth match in a row. Ryan Nolan was fit enough to take his place on the bench.

The away side dictated the opening stages, looking very assured on the ball.

Dundee improved after an injury to Joe Grayson saw Shaun Byrne replace him.

Lewis Vaughan made his presence known when he came off the bench, without making any real impact, while John Frederiksen struggled to get involved after he was introduced.

Man in the middle

Grant Irvine awarded a penalty for a handball by Brown, an incident which swayed the game firmly in Dundee’s favour.

The midfielder was booked – and while it did come off his arm, it looked on first viewing that he didn’t know too much about it.
