Dundee will be in the market for new faces in January, boss Gary Bowyer has confirmed.

The Dark Blues are in fine form with just two matches of 2022 left to play, having won their last six matches in all competitions.

That’s left the Dens Park club one point behind leaders Ayr United ahead of a weekend that sees the Dee host Cove Rangers and the Honest Men travel to Partick Thistle.

The two league leaders then face off at Somerset Park on December 23.

The January transfer window will open after that and Dundee want to bring fresh faces in.

Bowyer has never hidden the desire to put his own stamp on the squad, having only made two permanent signings since arriving in June.

That desire has not dissipated ahead of the winter window, despite the impressive recent form of the team.

“I would like to add, there are one or two areas where we still need more bodies,” Bowyer said.

“Then you are always wanting to add if there are players who would make your squad better who become available to you.

“We will certainly be no different in that regard.

“But it all revolves around finances and what you can and can’t do.”

Do players need to leave?

In the summer the Dens boss was frustrated by the lack of deals done when the transfer deadline passed.

Tyler French was the only permanent signing by that point while Joe Grayson and Ben Williamson had arrived on loan.

Striker Derick Osei would later arrive as a free agent on a short-term deal.

And news emerging of Shaun Byrne being told he could leave the club as well as experienced winger Niall McGinn being frozen out led to speculation that players needed to depart before new ones came in.

However, Bowyer said: “It’s not been said to me like that.

“But if we get told there are no funds available then we might have to be creative.

“If the right one came around for us to be creative for.”
