Robbie Neilson is happy to take a back seat when it comes to takeover talk but he knows one thing – it’s better than having to face up to the fact your club may soon no longer exist.
United fans are awaiting news of a proposed buy-out at Tannadice by American businessmen.
While that’s been hitting the headlines over the past week or two, the manager has been concentrating on preparing his team for each coming game.
Having been at Hearts when they were in administration a few seasons back, he knows he’s been in worse situations.
“I’ve been through that extent when you see people being laid off which isn’t nice, so to have it that somebody wants to come in and actually buy the club is great,” he said.
“It shows the stock of the club is still extremely high. It’s just wait and see from my perspective, I just need to win at Inverness on Saturday and that’s it.”
Aware such things can be a distraction, he’s made sure everyone on the playing side remains focused on their football.
“To be honest, it’s not something we speak about. It’s probably been going on a lot longer than I’ve been here and I know what these things are like.
“I’ve gone through it with football clubs before. Everyone thinks it’s going to happen, then it’s not and then it is. Next thing you know it’s happened.
“Like a lot of things in the background in football it can take your focus off the most important thing which is a Saturday. I’ve learned it’s my job to win on a Saturday.”
And he believes those at the top will do what is best.
“The chairman, Mike Martin, and the board have been brilliant with me since I came in and I trust them to make the best decision.”
