Ilmari Niskanen found the net for Dundee United as Jack Ross’ side played out a 1-1 draw against Northampton Town on Friday.
The Finland internationalist converted a Kieran Freeman delivery just after the half-hour mark.
Chris Mochrie, Tony Watt and Scott McMann also came close for the Terrors as pre-season preparations continued at their St Andrews training base.
However, Ali Koiki notched the leveller after the break.
United academy graduate Louis Appere played the first hour for the Cobblers and only a fine save from Carljohan Eriksson stopped the striker from getting his name on the scoresheet.
Appere, who notched eight goals in 80 outings during his time at Tannadice, made the switch south in January, scoring three times in 20 appearances for the League Two outfit.
Meanwhile, new Terrors signing Dylan Levitt played the opening 45 minutes after rejoining the club from Manchester United on Thursday.
The United side was:Â Eriksson; Freeman, Mulgrew, Edwards, McMann; Levitt (Graham 45), Smith, Harkes (Glass 45); MacLeod, Watt, Niskanen (Mochrie 45).
