Liam Fox has lauded the character and quality of Dylan Levitt following a virtuoso showing in Dundee United’s 4-0 hammering of Kilmarnock.

Levitt was named in the Wales squad for the World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday evening.

And he toasted that achievement with a dazzling display against dismal Killie.

He was sharp in possession, combative in the engine room and capped the performance with a sumptuous curling effort to conclude the scoring.

As well as praising Levitt’s ability, Fox emphasised the professionalism of he and Aziz Behich; neither of whom have allowed their thoughts to wander towards the Middle-East.

“He’s had a great day; a fantastic day,” smiled Fox. “Everyone is delighted for Dylan.

“You saw the quality he has. I also thought he was very good when he came on the pitch on Saturday (against Celtic).

“He’s a real top talent and I’m delighted for him. A great kid. It’s been a good day for him.”

Fox added: “I’ve got to say this about him (Levitt) and Aziz: at no point did I ever sense there was a focus on the World Cup. They are two great boys in the changing room.

“Now our plan is to try to get a performance and result up in Aberdeen and send them off to the World Cup! We’ll be watching them both.”

We’re all adults

The margin of United’s victory saw them leapfrog Kilmarnock and escape the foot of the Premiership, with Kieran Freeman, Jamie McGrath and Glenn Middleton also rippling the net.

The Tangerines now have a fighting chance to rise out of the bottom two prior to the World Cup hiatus, albeit taking anything from a trip to Aberdeen – given their fine home form – is a testing proposition.

“I thought the performance was really good and I am obviously delighted with the three points,” added Fox. “I didn’t need to tell the players how big a game it was. We are all adults and we all understand.”

He added: “It is only three points. There will be ups and downs. I know what the team is capable of and I still think there are improvements we can make.

“It is my job to keep pushing them to get that consistent performance level. If we manage to do that then we will pick up more points.

“We need to concentrate on Aberdeen now. We will be back in and prepare properly for that.”
