St Johnstone are closing in on a new goalkeeper, Callum Davidson has confirmed.

The Perth boss is optimistic that Saints will have a replacement for Zander Clark signed up “by the end of this week”.

The McDiarmid Park club have used number two Elliott Parish and Scotland under-21 international Ross Sinclair in pre-season, with the latter expected to be loaned out for the campaign.

Davidson has recruited five new players so far – Drey Wright, Andy Considine, Graham Carey, Adam Montgomery and Jamie Murphy – and a keeper is the priority for signing number six.

Saints have been linked with Kilmarnock’s Sam Walker.

Celtic’s Ross Doohan and Matt Macey of Hibs were also reported to have been on their radar but have moved to Tranmere Rovers and Luton Town, respectively.

“We’ve got a couple of options and hopefully by the end of this week we’ll have somebody in,” said Davidson.

“It’s a position we’ve been working really hard on but it’s not easy to get the right goalie.

“Like I said, there are two we’ve identified and hopefully we’ll get a deal sorted in the next few days.”
