St Johnstone defender Jason Kerr has emerged as a top summer transfer target of English Championship side Barnsley.
The predicted departure of fellow Scottish centre-back Liam Lindsay will have a knock-on effect for the Perth club.
A bid is expected to be tabled for Kerr as the recently-promoted Yorkshire outfit attempt to replace Lindsay, who has been linked with a move to Italian Serie A side Brescia.
Barnsley have greater funds at their disposal than when they had a £250,000 bid for Kerr knocked back in January.
Given that the Scotland under-21 international has been tied up on a three-year deal, and other English Championship clubs are monitoring the situation, Saints are in a strong position though.
It is likely that it will take a seven-figure sum, or very close to it, to persuade McDiarmid Park chairman Steve Brown to do business.
Last season was Kerr’s first full one as a Premiership player.
He has clocked up nearly 200 first team appearances after being loaned out to East Fife and then Queen of the South.
