A busy road in Dundee city centre was shut as emergency services dealt with a loose pipe. A member of the public raised concerns after spotting the damaged downpipe on Commercial Street on Wednesday morning. Firefighters removed lower sections of the pipe, which is attached to a four-storey building. Falling masonry, which was spotted by bystanders, was also removed. The building affected on Commercial Street. The incident forced the closure of the road, which runs from near the Tay Road Bridge to The McManus. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted to the incident at 7.17am and crews had left by 8.37am. The road was reopened shortly after and the incident has been passed on to building standards at Dundee City Council. Firefighters secure the area beneath the building. Two fire appliances were in attendance, including an aerial appliance. The incident affected bus services which use the route, including Stagecoach service 73/73A.
