New Year births across Courier country

New parents across Courier country are celebrating the arrival of the first babies of 2017.

Dundee’s first baby of the New Year has yet to be named, but was welcomed by her two siblings yesterday morning.

She is the third child of the Ahmed family, and was the first of three babies to be born in the early hours of yesterday at Ninewells Hospital.

The little girl arrived less than an hour after the bells, at 12.44am, weighing 7lb 8oz.

Second to arrive was baby Cirilla, who also weighed 7lb 8oz, the first child of Angela and Daniel Deak. She was born at 5.38am.

Around 90 minutes later, mum Jenna and dad Scott Headley welcomed their first child into the world. Baby James, weighing 11lb 1oz, was born at 7.09am.

In Fife, the first baby to arrive after the bells was a little boy born to local couple Adele Thomas, 23, and Ross Paul, 24. Weighing a healthy 9lb 9.5oz, the yet unnamed tot arrived at 2.04am. He is the couple’s first child.

Little Lukas was next to be born at the Kirkcaldy unit to Zydrone Zalatoriene, 32, who also lives in the town. Lukas is her third son and weighed in at 9lb 1oz.

The first girl to be born in Fife this year was Sophie, to Kirkcaldy parents Beata Musial, 35, and Michal Kwiatkowsla. Sophie arrived at 4.05am weighing 8lb 9oz.
Fife’s newest parents were congratulated by the new NHS Fife Board chairwoman Tricia Marwick.

It was Mrs Marwick’s first day in post. She said: “On my first day as chair of NHS Fife, I’m delighted to welcome the first babies in Fife of 2017.”
