Residents say they have been left shocked and scared after a balaclava-clad man carried out a sex attack on a woman in a Dundee park.
The 46-year-old was sexually assaulted at around 7.25pm on Wednesday while walking in Powrie Park in Fintry.
Police say the suspect is 6ft tall and middle aged, with a heavy or athletic build and broad shoulders.
He was wearing a black balaclava, a black zip-up hoodie, black jogging bottoms and black and white trainers.
Locals plan to avoid Powrie Park
Some locals who often visit Powrie Park with their children and dogs have told The Courier they now plan on avoiding the area.
A mum who lives on Findhorn Street street said: “I’ve seen it online. It does concern me.
“My kids go to play there on their own – I won’t be letting them go there now.”
Another woman who lives nearby said: “My cousin told me about it yesterday.
“I was scared last night, I can’t get the image out of my head of a man in a balaclava.
“I go there with the dogs every day, although I would avoid it at night.
“I won’t go near the park now. My cousin told me she is scared too, it’s just horrible.
“The fact he is 6ft and athletic – most of us wouldn’t even stand a chance.”
‘Nothing like this has happened before’
Brandon Taylor, who has lived in the area for 11 years, said: “My wife told me about it this morning.
“Nothing like that has happened before.
“I would walk there most days normally. It’s very popular with people in this area and my kids play there often.
“I know my wife will definitely avoid it at night.”
Another man in the area, who gave his name as Mr Christie, said: “I’m shocked by the news – it’s ridiculous.
“Nothing like this has happened before, it’s pretty concerning.”
His wife said: “I just saw it on Facebook – I feel disgusted to be honest.
“I usually go once a day but only in the mornings.”
‘If you saw anything suspicious, get in touch’
Police are continuing to appeal for information over the attack, including for dashcam footage from the area at the time.
Detective Inspector Graeme Wishart said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident to get in touch.
“If anyone saw or noticed anything suspicious, or has any information on the suspect, please do get in touch with us.”
Police can be contacted on 101, with reference number 3097 of January 4, or information can be passed on through Crimestoppers.
