Dundee-born star Brian Cox has said he has “nothing in common” with his Succession character, despite hailing from the same city.
Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, when asked if he had anything in common with his character, he jokingly said: “Just contempt.”
He added: “No, I have nothing in common. It’s a complete creation.”
The 73-year-old plays the show’s fictional lead character, Logan Roy, whose family owns one of the world’s largest media companies.
Despite the single similarity between Cox and Logan Roy, this was not initially the case.
Cox revealed his character was originally from Quebec, Canada and said it was not until the ninth episode it was revealed Logan Roy would also be Dundee-born.
When he asked why this decision was made, the makers of the show said it would be “a nice little surprise” for him. He said he agreed it was a surprise.
Part of the second series was filmed in Dundee at the V&A.
Some areas of the £80 million museum were closed to the public to allow for the nighttime filming, which lasted for four nights.
A spokeswoman for Dundee’s V&A said it was a “fitting welcome”.
Succession was in the running for 5 2019 Emmy Awards nominations including Outstanding Drama Series.
But it was not the only television series to be filmed in Dundee this year. A crime show created by Scottish crime writer Val McDermid is also based in the city.
A helicopter was also seen flying around as it captured aerial images of Dundee and the Tay.
For Brian Cox, Logan Roy is not the only high profile character he is to portray. On The Late Show, the actor discussed his upcoming role in The Great Society at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in New York. He is to play former U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson.
The second series of Succession, which is expected to include scenes filmed in Dundee’s V&A museum, will air on August 12 in the UK on Sky Atlantic.
