Wormit woman devastated after caravan theft

A caravan similar to the one stolen from Wormit on Friday night.

Brazen thieves manoeuvred a fully-kitted caravan out of a Wormit driveway and made off into the night – despite a flat tyre.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft from the home of 39-year-old Lorraine King on Friday night.

The raiders had to manoeuvre the caravan, which had one flat tyre, before it could towed away as a car had been parked next to it.

Lorraine said: “I rent this house and the only thing I owned is the caravan – it was the one thing that was mine.”

The childminder uses the caravan most weekends to travel to dog agility events around Scotland so the caravan was kitted out with a flatscreen television as well as a lot of her clothes.

She said: “We’re not sure what time it was taken – I was out on Friday evening and when I came home about 11pm I went straight to bed.

“When I got up in the morning it was’t there.

“One of the tyres had been let down deliberately and the car was parked up right against it so they had to manoeuvre it out before they could drive away.

“None of the neighbours saw or heard anything. It was parked in the back in an area that is not overlooked.

“There was lots in it – it was all packed up and ready to use. All my dog registration documents were in there too – it’s a huge hassle.”

Lorraine added: “I was absolutely devastated on Saturday.

“I don’t have much and work full-time.

“It’s an old caravan, it’s a 2001 plate, and someone has just come and taken it. I’m absolutely gutted. I can’t afford to replace it.”

Lorraine put an appeal on social media after the theft and a number of people got in touch to say they thought they had seen the Sterling Topaz caravan.

The stolen caravan  is missing its wheel arch on the passenger side.

Some said they had seen a similar caravan being driven towards Inverbervie in Aberdeenshire.

“The police are looking into it so I think they will be checking CCTV to see if it was taken over the bridge” said Lorraine.

However, Lorraine has been able to take comfort from the fact that one vital piece of equipment was not on board the carvan.

“I had to chuckle to myself when I went upstairs and saw the cassette toilet was there – I hope they don’t need to use the toilet,” she said.
