Sepa issues flood alert for Tayside with heavy showers predicted

Sepa has issued a flood alert for Tayside amid predictions of heavy showers in the local area.

The warning, which covers Perthshire. says: “Heavy showers are likely to affect the area during Wednesday although not all places will see them.

“This could lead to localised flooding from surface water and small watercourses.

“Possible impacts could include flooding of low-lying land, roads, properties and disruption to travel.”

Earlier this week the Met Office earlier issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms today across most of Courier Country, but this now only applies to western parts of Perthshire including Crieff, Aberfeldy and Pitlochry.

The warning, valid from midday until midnight, says that further thunderstorms will develop by Wednesday afternoon, with a chance of flooding in places and possible travel disruption.

It adds: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

“There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”
