Dundee boss Paul Hartley still hoping key player will sign new deal

Dundee boss Paul Hartley insists he has not set a deadline for a decision from Paul McGinn on whether the defender will be staying at Dens or leaving the club.

The 25-year-old full-back has been a key player for the Dark Blues since he joined them two summers ago from Dumbarton and he has now made 74 appearances for the side.

McGinn is out of contract at the end of this season and the club have offered him a new deal.

However, negotiations have stalled with McGinn being linked with other clubs, including the side his brother John plays for, Hibs.

Hartley is still hopeful that the player decides to stay at Dens and he is willing to give him more time to make his mind up.

The manager said: “We have offered Paul a contract and I think it is at a stalemate just now.

“We need to wait and see what happens there. I think he has been linked with a few clubs and we can’t stop speculation.

“Would we like to keep Paul? Yes, we would.

“We have offered him something and we just have to see what happens.”

When asked if he had put a timescale on waiting for a decision from McGinn, Hartley said: “No, not really. I think there has been a bit of toing and froing between the agent and the club.

“But if we can’t sort a deal out, there is not a lot we can do.

“Sometimes players have ambitions also. They maybe want to try something different but we definitely want to keep Paul here.”
