Dundee United’s search for a new manager looks like dragging on longer than the Tannadice club had hoped.
United had wanted their new man unveiled by today at the latest so that he could be given time to work with the players ahead of Saturday’s huge home game against Championship leaders St Mirren.
However, one of the leading candidates, former Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo, was in Hungary yesterday.
Born in Romania but an ethnic Hungarian, the 53-year-old is understood to have been doing some pre-arranged TV work in Budapest.
He is due back in Scotland today and, having impressed at his interview, remains a frontrunner to take over from Ray McKinnon.
Alan Stubbs, the ex-Hibs boss who seemed to have ruled himself out of the running for the Tangerines’ vacancy during a live TV broadcast of last week’s Edinburgh derby, re-emerged as a possible appointee. However, it is now being reported that he has confirmed he does not want the job.
Former Raith Rovers gaffer John Hughes is still in the mix and the same goes for former Tannadice striker and ex-Ross County boss Jim McIntyre.
