Raith Rovers boss Barry Smith has expressed his delight after adding two proven goalscorers and a young, hungry defender to his squad for next season’s promotion push.
The Stark’s Park manager has fought off competition from elsewhere to land experienced strikers Liam Buchanan and Greig Spence as well as the versatile Euan Murray.
Smith knows the two front men well having worked with them both before when he was in charge at Alloa.
Buchanan, who’s 32, helped Livingston win promotion last season, netting 27 times while 24-year-old Spence, who had a previous spell with Rovers, scored on 26 occasions for the Wasps who just missed out on going up to the Championship in the play-offs to Brechin.
Murray (23), who started his career at Motherwell, played for Southport last season in the English National League North.
Smith said: “I am absolutely delighted to get all three signed up.
“I have worked with Liam and Greig in the past and I think they were keen to work with me again.
“They were also eager to come to Raith who both see as a big club and they are determined to help us get promoted.
“We had to work hard to get both of them to the club as there was a lot of interest in them from elsewhere.
“They bring bags of experience to the table and, of course, goals.
“If you have people who can score regularly in this league, then it gives you a chance of going where you want to.
“Liam’s record speaks for itself and I believe Greig returns to Raith a better player.
“We already had Lewis Vaughan and Jonny Court so it is great to have that competition in the front areas.”
Smith added: “I knew Euan when he was a young boy at Motherwell.
“I have seen him a few times and I am still very friendly with Gordon Young who was my assistant at East Fife and he rates him very highly.
“Euan has been down south and he is young and hungry. He is an aggressive defender and as much as we want to score goals, it is important that we are secure at the other end of the pitch so I am delighted to get him on board.
“We are still talking to a couple of others and I feel we are getting closer to the squad we want in place.”
