Plans for a new Aldi in Milnathort.

Aldi is planning a new Kinross-shire store that will cost more than £5million and create around 35 jobs.

A series of consultation events are planned as the supermarket goes through the planning process.

Aldi hopes to build a 1,800 square metre store at Auld Mart Road in Milnathort.

This is part of ambitious plans to rapidly increase its number of stores in the UK.

It estimates the bill for the store will be £5.3million and it will create 35 local full-time and part-time jobs.

What are the Aldi Milnathort plans?

Aldi has written to more than 3,500 residents across Milnathort and Kinross to encourage people to give feedback on the plans.

Around two-thirds of the footprint will be the shop area, with the rest staff welfare and storage areas.

The plans include 97 parking bays and 10 cycle spaces.

The budget supermarket plans to submit a planning application in early summer.

Ahead of this, there will be an in-person consultation event on May 11 at Milnathort Town Hall from 2.30pm-6.30pm.

This will provide an opportunity to view plans and discuss the proposals in person with the project team.

There will also be a virtual consultation event on May 16 from 5pm-7pm.

Aldi claims to be one of the UK’s best paying supermarkets, with entry level jobs currently paying £10.10 per hour.

A store manager’s salary starts at £48,490 and rises to £63,245 after four years.

Aldi investment in estate

Richard Holloway, managing director for Aldi in Scotland, said: “Perth and Kinross continues to be a key area of growth for Aldi.

“I am delighted we are able to present our plans to the local community.

“We are hopeful that the new store will bring great benefit to the local area, promoting active travel and generating a substantial inward investment of around £5.3m.

“We look forward to receiving questions and feedback from local residents and other interested parties through our consultation.”

Aldi plans to open 100 new stores within two years – an investment of £1.3billion.

Last year Aldi made a significant investment in refurbishing its Forfar store.

Meanwhile rival supermarket chain Lidl is offering cash rewards for people who find sites as it plans a number of new stores in Dundee and Fife.
