New faces arrive at Station Park as Forfar get ready for big kick-off

Jim Weir.

Forfar manager Jim Weir is looking to strike the perfect balance of a strong defence and a potent attack when his side host Airdrie.

The Loons have added the goal threat of Lewis Moore on loan from Hearts and the 20-year-old could start against the Diamonds.

Weir also signed Rangers defender Aidan Wilson on a similar basis to help keep his side’s backdoor shut.

The 19-year-old has joined the Loons until early January.

Born in Hong Kong, Wilson has been with Rangers since his primary school days, signing a new and extended professional contract last autumn.

He made his first team debut for the Ibrox outfit in May 2017 against Aberdeen and spent a part of last season on loan at Dumbarton.

Weir said: “Lewis has played in the Hearts first team and I am delighted to get him in at the club.

“With John Baird also on board we will carry a goal threat and we also have the creativity of guys like Dale Hilson and Dylan Easton to help exploit that.

“I reckon we will be a side that can score goals however we need to get better at keeping them out.

“We did well against St Johnstone last weekend but a silly mistake costs us and we need to cut that out of our game.”

Wilson trained with the Station Park side on Thursday and the paperwork has been completed in time for him to go into the squad.

The Forfar boss said: “It would be good to have another option especially against an Airdrie side who have strengthened throughout the summer.

“They have put together a good squad and their front two of Dale Carrick and Darryl Duffy will need careful handling.

“They did well in their Betfred Cup games and took Hamilton all the way to penalties last weekend so this will be a tough start.

“We have shown in patches that we can be a decent team and it would be terrific to get a solid 90 minutes in against Airdrie and hopefully pick up the three points.”

Andrew Munro is banned and Weir will also be without the injured Darren Whyte, Michael Kennedy and Matty Aitken with Gary Fraser a doubt.
