The A9 has reopened following a two-car crash that saw a woman taken to hospital.

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) airlifted her to hospital following the smash, which happened north of Stanley at 2.26pm.

The crash involved a Honda Jazz and a Citroen C3, and it’s believed that at least one of the people involved is elderly.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they had to cut the woman from one of the cars.

He said: “We sent two appliances from Perth to a two-vehicle crash.

“One female was extricated from a vehicle using hydraulic cutting gear and taken to Ninewells Hospital by air ambulance.”

The crash caused traffic chaos in the area as both carriageways were closed.

Traffic was diverted via Stanley, while HGVs and coaches were stacked to await the road reopening.

Police Scotland confirmed they were also in attendance.

A spokeswoman said: “The A9 near Bankfoot has now re-opened following the earlier road traffic collision.”
