A Perthshire hotel has announced its sudden closure due to the owner’s ill health.

Stewart McTaggart, owner of the Alyth Hotel, announced on Thursday that he would be shutting the venue.

He has cited “poor health” and the need to take care of himself as the reason to close.

The team are now searching for a new tenant to take over the lease.

In a Facebook post regarding the announcement, it said: “I’m gonna miss you all.

“Unfortunately due to poor health, I’ve made the hard decision to close the doors of the hotel and look after myself.

“We will be looking for a new tenant to take over a new lease here at the hotel with a low rental value of £1,500 per month.

‘I’ll miss you all’

“There has been lots of work carried out over the years and the building has amazing potential!”

The team have asked anyone interested to message them.

The hotel was saved from closure last year, with Stewart warning that it was in danger of shutting due to Covid-19 restrictions.

However after hearing of his plight, the Scottish Government vowed to step in and help him.

Stewart took to the time to thank his loyal customers who came in “rain, hail or shine”.

“I’ll miss you all but I’m moving on to a new chapter – who knows where I’ll pop up next,” he continued.

“Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other!”
